Before some days a friend of mine asked me to recommend a product as I have some expertise on those. I recommended him a company stating him the name of the co., the website’s url and the contact phone numbers . After some hours he called me back very anxious asking me if it is a reliable co. with reliable products etc .
I asked him what has caused him this inconvenience and he honestly replied me “I can’t find this company in google!“ This friend was a postgraduate of a Technical university .
If a post graduate of a Technical University thinks this way what about the average people surfing on the net?
Due to this incident I realized how much people trust web sites listed in the SERPS .
We trust google more than we trust our mothers! Have you ever wondered how many decisions have you take based on google results and how many on our mother’s advise?
When I begun to deal with internet back to 1999 I was a system administrator in a huge machine having unlimited bandwidth & computational resources . I tried to exploit this machine power and I installed a software named “Microsoft Site server” . It was a software provided by Microsoft imitating a search engine where you would build your index as a basis then the robot crawled the web sites I added and it has a ranking algorithm displaying the results .
I could easily build my own index based on a human review of each web site I added .
The display results were based on this software algo which was actually very poor comparing to current google algo’s .
I can honestly say that my search results were far more better than any results of search engines of that time .
That time I was dreaming that the internet will continue to grow this way!
Everyone would have the ability to build his own micro-search engine based on a human reviewed index .
But unfortunately not anybody can have server with unlimited resources .!
It was a dream not a reality!
The reality now is that Google has dominate the world .
Will this ever change?
Possibly Yes , but how?
If every webmaster has the ability to build a micro-search engine that could serve better results at it’s micro-index would be human edited even if the micro-ranking algorithm could not compete sophisticated Phd’s designed algo’s of Google .
If someone give that ability , then a lot of web siteswill be build around that idea.
Info and directory like web sites will adopt it immediately , trying to give better results to their audience!
Webmasterswill immediately replace the site search of google with their micro-site search based on their web site .
Affiliates will build their micro-search engines based on their affiliate bunch of sites they try to promote .
And that would be more natural . Not a single source of info for the world but everyone could potentially be a source of info!
Could someone provide such a service for a fee?
Alexa was my hope with their http://websearch.alexa.com/welcome.html
They announce they will provide it for a fee But it seems they are facing difficulties with their beta service . I hope they will overcome it andturn Amazon a major search player.
Anyone to invest on that idea? I am ready to follow!
